Sizing & care

SIZING:

Hand rings:

In order to determine your ring size, the ideal option is to get sized by a jeweller. If you are unable to do so, the following guide can assist you in finding your ring size.

If you don't have a ring that fits your finger, you can measure the circumference of your finger. To do this, wrap a piece of string tight around the largest part of your finger. Precisely mark or cut where the string meets. Measure the string and divide by 3.14 to get your approximate ring size diameter, then compare your number to the table above. See the video on our instagram for a visual "how to".

If your ring doesn't fit, we're happy to replace it with another one in your size only if we've got one in stock. In case of such an exchange, the customer is responsible for the costs of shipping to and from Halio.

CARE:

Silver necklace: all 925 sterling silver necklaces are prone to tarnish over time. Any cleaning methods work but please remove pendants prior to cleaning.

Argentium silver: Any silver is prone to tarnishing over time. Rubbing with a cloth or a t shirt can remove the tarnish and restore its original shine.

Wood: preferably avoid applying wood oils as some oils can slightly change the appearance.

Paua: Avoid using vinegar to clean any paua pendants.

PĀUA HAND RINGS STRENGTH AND CARE

Many question the strength of the paua hand rings, but they are surprisingly strong. Our pure paua rings are made from the strongest part of solid shells, with at least two pieces joined together using a similar method to laminating wood. This adds strength in the same way that plywood relies on all its layers.

With this being said, they are made as dress rings, not work rings and are not suitable to wear while doing heavy work. We recommend wearing our hand rings on the pinky finger or ring finger of your less dominant hand since these fingers are exposed to less pressure and the ring will last for longer. Our stacker ring, the thinnest of our hand rings, is not suitable for everyday wear and will break if you put too much pressure on it. If you want an everyday ring or piece of jewellery we recommend our band ring or our other pieces.

We have trialed the pieces for years before bringing this to you and have put together some guidelines to make sure your piece will stay safe.

1) Avoid putting lots of tension such as trying to bend or break it by hand (except the band ring)

2) Remove ring when lifting heavy objects, chopping vegetables or other work that would put a lot of pressure on your finger and ring.

3) If worn every day, your ring might loose some of its shine and need a quick polish every few months. This is how:

  • Find the five polishing strips at the bottom of your ring box, labeled rough - extra extra fine.
  • Have a close look at your ring and choose to either use all five strips (if you’ve been wearing everyday for half a year) or only the "fine" and "extra fine" if it only needs a bit more shine
  • Put the polishing strips on a book, couch or other gentle surface
  • Rub the outside surfaces with the polishing strips, starting with "rough" and going through to "extra extra fine". Use water on the polishing strips to create a brighter shine.
  • This can be a quick and enjoyable task to keep your ring shining

Your piece will last a lifetime if you are careful with it. If your piece is damaged or broken, we're happy to repair, replace or refund it
