Materials & Sustainability

MATERIALS:

Necklaces:

- Silver necklaces: 925 Sterling silver. Available in 16, 18, or 20 inch. 11mm fine curb. A thin and elegant necklace, yet strong enough for daily use.

- Cord necklaces: adjustable waxed cord.

Earrings:

hooks and hoops:

Our earrings are 935 argentium silver, unless you request a different material.

-935 Argentium silver wire: Hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant compared to 925 sterling silver. Made from recycled silver. Slightly lighter colour than 925.

Other earring material options:

-Stainless Steel wire: 304 stainless steel lasts forever without tarnishing. This grade has the least amount of nickel but it’s still not recommend for those with very sensitive skin.

-pure niobium available upon request (great for those with the most sensitive skin). Completely tarnish resistant. No extra charge.

-gold filled earrings also available upon request.

Studs:

925 sterling silver or 316 surgical stainless steel ( your choice)

Bracelets: hemp string.

Coatings:

-Paua: No gloss spray or coating is used on our paua pieces, it’s purely natural shine. This is achieved by using very fine sandpaper and polishing paper. This gives more natural iridescence and smoothness than coatings.

-Wood: some of our wooden pieces are lightly coated and buffed with wood wax to protect. Being hardwoods they are very durable.

Pendant materials:

Our aim is to give the wearer a connection to the beautiful world we live in.

Wood: our wooden products are made only from recycled wood. Kept from gardening jobs, local arborists and others burn piles. Just a few pieces of firewood could have created all of the products you see on our website. All wooden pieces are created in a way to show the layers within.

Glass: Locally drunk bottles. The bottles are carefully chipped into nice shapes, then tumbled in a rock tumbler for a smooth and matte finish.

Paua shells: we use nz paua shells from both the lower north island and South Island. Only two shells can make over 20 pieces of jewellery, and over 30 pairs of studs. The shells are very dangerous to carve with as well as tricky. This is why our paua pieces are fairly expensive.

Pounamu/greenstone off-cuts: We get unwanted off-cuts from other NZ jewellers. They are carefully chipped and shaped into small pieces then tumbled in a rock tumbler to create natural, free-form looking stones. All are NZ greenstone.

Gift boxes: The cardboard gift boxes are made of recycled cardboard and are recyclable.

Cards: Recycled cardboard.

Gift wrapping: Recycled paper.

SUSTAINABILITY:

Made in NZ from recycled materials.

Living a sustainable life is a very important aspect for us both personally and in business. Moa grew up in an eco village and is enthusiastic about her plant based cooking and her sourdough. Dave has worked full time with gardening and conservation work for most of his life. We hope our pieces give you a little connection to the beauty of the natural world.
