Materials
MATERIALS:
Necklaces:
- Silver necklaces: 925 Sterling silver. Available in 16, 18, or 20 inch. 11mm fine curb. A thin and elegant necklace, yet strong enough for daily use.
- Cord necklaces: adjustable waxed cord.
Earrings:
hooks and hoops:
Our earrings are 935 argentium silver, unless you request a different material.
-935 Argentium silver wire: similar to 925 sterling silver, though more tarnish resistant and hypoallergenic. Slightly lighter colour than 925. Made from recycled silver.
Other earring material options:
-Stainless Steel wire: 304 stainless steel lasts forever without tarnishing. This grade has the least amount of nickel but it’s still not recommend for those with very sensitive skin.
-pure niobium available upon request (great for those with the most sensitive skin). Completely tarnish resistant. No extra charge.
-gold filled earrings also available upon request.
Studs:
925 sterling silver or 316 surgical stainless steel ( your choice)
Bracelets: hemp string.
Coatings:
-Paua: No gloss spray or coating is used on our paua pieces, it’s purely natural shine. This is achieved by using very fine sandpaper and polishing paper. This gives more natural iridescence and smoothness than coatings.
-Wood: our wooden drop earrings waxed and buffed with wood wax to protect. Being hardwoods they are very durable.
Pendant materials:
Our aim is to give the wearer a connection to the beautiful world we live in.
Wood: our wooden products are made only from recycled wood. Kept from gardening jobs, local arborists, others burn piles and cyclone windfall. Just a dozen pieces of firewood could have created all of the products you see on our website. All wooden pieces are created in a way to show the layers within.
Glass: Locally drunk bottles. The bottles are carefully chipped into nice shapes, then tumbled in a rock tumbler for a smooth and matte finish. They are engraved and wrapped with thin stainless steel wire.
Pāua shells: we use shells from both the lower north island and South Island. Only two shells can make over 20 pieces of jewellery, and over 30 pairs of studs. The shells are very dangerous to carve with as well as difficult. This is why our paua pieces are fairly expensive.
Pōunamu / greenstone off-cuts: We get unwanted off-cuts from other jewellers and carvers. They are carefully chipped and shaped into small pieces, then tumbled in a rock tumbler. This creates natural, free-form pendants. All are South Island stones.
Gift boxes: The cardboard gift boxes are made of recycled cardboard and are recyclable.
Cards: Recycled cardboard.
Gift wrapping: Recycled paper.
SUSTAINABILITY:
Made locally from recycled materials.
Living a sustainable life is an important aspect for us both personally and in business. Moa grew up in an eco village and is enthusiastic about gardening and her sourdough. Dave worked full time with gardening and conservation work for many years. We hope our pieces give you a little connection to the beauty of the natural world.
